Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the longstanding unity between Nigeria and the Niger Republic, emphasizing that the bonds that unite both nations remain far stronger than any issues that may create division.
Shettima made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gumel, held alongside the official commissioning of the Gumel Juma’at Friday Mosque.
According to him, Nigeria and Niger share deep historical and cultural ties.
“Nigeria and Niger Republic are the same. We are related and share the same blood,” he said.
He cautioned citizens against propaganda suggesting hostility between both countries, adding:
“Don’t be deceived by misinformation. Nigeria does not hate you. You are part of us, and we are part of you.”
The Vice President noted that many Nigerians, including himself and prominent figures such as former Minister of Defence and former Minister Ali Magashi, have family ties across the border.
He acknowledged that misunderstandings are natural in every relationship but stressed the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding.
“I want to assure Nigeriens that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu loves you, and Nigeria loves you. The ties that bind us are stronger than the issues that attempt to divide us.”
Shettima prayed for continued peace, unity, and stability between the two nations.
In his remarks, Governor Umar Namadi commended the Vice President for the visit and pledged Jigawa State’s full support for the Federal Government’s efforts toward sustaining peace and stability across the country.
