7 Die, 11 Injured in Jigawa Motor Accident

No fewer than seven people have lost their lives while eleven others sustained injuries in a fatal motor accident along the Kiyawa–Azare Road in Jigawa State.

An eyewitness said the crash occurred when a Toyota Hummer bus conveying 18 passengers from Kano to Potiskum had a tyre burst, lost control, and somersaulted off the road. He stated that several passengers died instantly, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists. He said personnel of the Motor Traffic Division (MTD), led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kiyawa Division, responded swiftly to the scene for rescue operations.

According to him, seven people, including the driver, died on the spot, while eleven others were rushed to the General Hospital, Dutse, for medical attention. Four of the injured victims have since been treated and discharged, while the remaining are still receiving treatment.

He added that the corpses have been deposited at the General Hospital, Dutse mortuary, and efforts are underway to identify and contact their relatives.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured. 

He further urged motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations, ensure proper vehicle maintenance, and exercise caution, particularly during long-distance journeys.
