The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Jigawa State chapter, has appealed to the state government to implement the new ₦32,000 minimum pension recently approved by the Federal Government.
The State Chairman of the Union, Mallam Umar Sani Babura, made the appeal during a programme on Radio Jigawa.
According to him, the Union has already submitted its request to the state government for the adoption and payment of the new minimum pension as approved by the President at the national level.
Mallam Babura expressed optimism that Governor Umar Namadi would approve the ₦32,000 minimum pension once the committee responsible for the review submits its report.
“We are confident that Governor Mallam Umar Namadi will approve the payment of ₦32,000 as the minimum pension in the state as soon as the committee submits its report,” he said.
The Chairman further explained that the state government has already conducted a screening exercise for all pensioners across Jigawa State in preparation for the implementation of the new pension scheme.
He also appealed to Governor Namadi to include pensioners in government empowerment initiatives, particularly those related to agriculture and palliative programmes.
In addition, Mallam Babura called on the state government to provide the Union with a vehicle to enhance effective service delivery.
