Lamido Join race for PDP National Chairman

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, and one of the founding father of the People’s Democratic party PDP on Monday declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman. 

Lamido, who made the announcement in a post on his verified Facebook page, said he would visit the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, to purchase the nomination form.

According to the statement “By the grace of God, I shall today, Monday 27th October 2025 by 11 a.m., be at Wadata Plaza, the National Headquarters of our very party, Peoples Democratic Party, to purchase the nomination form to run for the office of the National Chairman of the Party,” he wrote.

Lamido, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and one of the founding members of the PDP, expressed confidence in his ability to reposition the party and restore its former strength

He said, “My commitment to democracy and resolve to restore our dear party to its old glory is unstoppable.”

The former governor, known for his strong stance on internal party democracy and national unity, said his decision to run was motivated by the desire to strengthen the PDP ahead of future elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party, which ruled Nigeria from 1999 to 2015, is expected to elect a new National Chairman at its forthcoming national convention.

It was reported that, The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Jigawa State has rejected the recent endorsement of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki by the northern caucus of the PDP as the unopposed candidate for the position of National Chairman.
