A 50-year-old woman, identified as Furera Ibrahim, has been beaten to death over allegations of witchcraft in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
An eyewitness told Newsmen that the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Monday at Kwarin Shiddi in Katuka Village, when a group of family members launched an attack on the deceased.
According to the witness, relatives of one Habiba who has been bedridden consulted a native doctor for treatment, and he allegedly named Furera as the person responsible for her illness.
“About ten of Habiba’s relatives stormed Furera’s house and attacked her with machetes and sticks,” the witness said.
He added that two of Furera’s sons were also injured while attempting to protect their mother from the attackers. All the victims were rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for medical attention.
Police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident, noting that investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Jigawa State Human Rights Network has condemned the killing, stating in a press release that it will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
