The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned that it will sanction any member found undermining party unity or showing disrespect to Governor Umar Namadi and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
State Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Nasiru Dahiru Jahun, gave the warning when he led a delegation of the State Executive Committee and chairmen of the party across the 27 local government areas on a solidarity visit to the governor.
Speaking at the Government House, Dutse, Jahun reaffirmed the loyalty of the party leadership to Governor Namadi, whom he described as the recognized leader of the APC in Jigawa. He also declared the party’s full support for both President Tinubu and Governor Namadi, endorsing them for a second term in 2027.
The party leaders commended the Namadi administration for what they described as “wonderful transformation and unprecedented achievements within just two years,” noting that such milestones were historic in Jigawa’s development journey.
“Our loyalty to the governor is like that of the comical character ‘Maha’ to his teacher; without objection, whatever Malam says we will do, and wherever he directs us, we will follow,” Jahun said, stressing that members who undermine unity would be sanctioned.
In his response, Governor Namadi thanked the party leadership for their show of solidarity, assuring them of fairness in dealing with members across the state. He emphasized that both the federal and state governments under the APC remain committed to people-oriented policies and developmental projects.
However, the visit comes amid rising tension within the party, as factions loyal to former governor and current Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, and Governor Namadi have openly clashed in recent days, with their supporters trading strong words.
The rift, which had been quietly building since the transition of power in 2023, is now widening into open confrontation, threatening the unity of the ruling party in Jigawa. Observers warn that if not carefully managed, the crisis could weaken the APC’s dominance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Neither Governor Namadi nor former Governor Badaru has publicly commented on the dispute.
