The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged Northerners to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise and register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Forum’s 27 local government chapters in Dutse, the Jigawa State Chairman of ACF, Alhaji Aminu Dalhatu, expressed concern over the region’s low participation in the ongoing voter registration.
Dalhatu noted that the North continues to lag behind in several areas, including education, which he said has contributed to the region’s developmental challenges.
“We noted with concern the apathy of Northerners towards the ongoing voter registration exercise across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
He called on residents to protect the region’s collective interest by turning out en masse to register, stressing that voter participation is crucial for effective representation.
Dalhatu also lamented the slow progress of the exercise in Jigawa State and emphasized the need for intensified public enlightenment campaigns.
“I believe that in the last four years, many people have for various reasons become eligible to vote some have attained the minimum voting age, while others have relocated to different parts of the country,” he said.
“But you will agree with me that the turnout for this exercise in Jigawa is far from satisfactory. We stress the need for people to redouble their efforts, particularly in sensitization, so that as a body we can complement government efforts in this direction,” he added.
